Mesquite has always known how to make a newcomer feel at home — it’s the Rodeo Capital of Texas, after all. A puppy is the kind of newcomer that changes the rhythm of a house for the next fifteen years, so it’s worth starting that story off right.
Bringing a Puppy Home to Mesquite
The puppies you’ll find through Wellspring are gathered from two Dallas–Fort Worth locations into one listing, so a Mesquite family doesn’t have to guess which location has what. Whether you’re settled into Town East Estates, watching new streets go up in the Talia community off the east side, or living on one of the older tree-lined blocks near downtown by Front Street Station, the search starts the same way: see who’s available, then come meet them.
Mesquite is built for a dog. There are more than seventy parks and over seventeen miles of trails inside the city, plus the Leash Free Zone at Town East Park — two fenced areas split for big and small dogs — for the morning when your pup finally figures out what running flat-out feels like. We’d rather you picture that walk first and pick the breed second. The right match for a quiet apartment near the highway is a different dog than the one for a fenced backyard in Casa View Heights, and that’s the conversation we’d start with you.
Breeds Mesquite Families Love
We keep a rotating mix on the floor, leaning toward dogs that settle well into North Texas family life. A few that tend to suit Mesquite homes:
- Goldendoodles — easygoing, people-first, and light shedders; happy on a long trail walk or sprawled across the couch afterward.
- French Bulldogs — compact, low-fuss companions that do as well in a starter home as a busy one with kids.
- Cavalier King Charles Spaniels — gentle to a fault and genuinely fond of children; a Cavalier will follow you room to room, and that’s the breed, not a phase.
- Maltipoos — small, bright, and adaptable, with coats that shed very little.
If you’d rather read up before you decide, our breed guide lays out size, coat, and temperament breed by breed. None of these are “in stock” the way a shelf item is — litters arrive and go home on their own schedule, so the honest answer to “is it available?” is a phone call.
One Search, Two DFW Locations
Here’s the part that saves Mesquite buyers a trip: every puppy listed at Wellspring lives at one of our two locations, and you’re looking at both at once. That’s the whole idea behind one trusted breeder network, two DFW locations — you search in a single place and we tell you where to drive. When you call (972) 674-1963, we’ll say plainly which puppy is at which location today, because that changes by the day and we’d rather you not arrive to find the dog you came for is across town.
Closest to Mesquite: Our Dallas Location
Your nearer location is the Dallas location at 14233 Inwood Rd, Dallas, TX 75244, up in North Dallas just off I-635. It’s the natural first stop coming from Mesquite. Our Fort Worth-area location sits at 2840 FM157 #120, Mansfield, TX 76063 — farther west, but worth the longer drive if the puppy you’ve set your heart on happens to be there that week.
Both locations keep the same hours: see our store pages Bring the whole family and take your time. Meeting a puppy isn’t something to rush, and nobody here will hurry you toward the door.
The Drive From Mesquite
From most of Mesquite, the cleanest route to the Dallas location is to take I-635 (the LBJ Freeway) up and around the north side of the loop to the Inwood Rd exit. It’s a short, mostly-highway run — call it a comfortable half-hour with normal traffic, less when the freeway is kind. If the puppy you want is at the Mansfield location instead, plan on staying on I-635 and looping farther west and south; it’s a longer haul, so it’s worth confirming where your puppy actually is before you set out.
A small bit of advice from people who do this every day: come on the early side of a weekday if you can. Saturdays are wonderful but busy, and a quieter floor means more unhurried time with the litter you came to meet.
Payment Options for Mesquite Buyers
If spreading the cost out helps the timing work, we set up payment plans in-person through TerraceFinance — approval runs through them, not us, so it’s never a sure thing, but we’ll walk through it with you at the counter. You can read how it works on our financing page before you come in. There’s also an optional 15-Year Limited Health Warranty you can add in-person, meant to stand behind the long stretch of years ahead rather than promise anything about a single day. Both are choices, not requirements.
Each puppy is examined by a licensed Texas veterinarian before it ever meets a family, and Texas law keeps puppies from going home before eight weeks — the point at which they’re actually ready for the change. Our dogs come from a trusted network of carefully selected, licensed breeders; ask us anything about where a particular puppy came from, and you’ll get a straight answer.
Mesquite Puppy Questions, Answered
Which Wellspring location should a Mesquite family visit first?
Start with the Dallas location at 14233 Inwood Rd — it’s the closer of the two from Mesquite, a short I-635 run up the north loop. The Fort Worth-area location in Mansfield is open to you as well, and the listing here shows puppies from both. Call (972) 674-1963 and we’ll point you to wherever your puppy actually is.
Do I need to call before driving over from Mesquite?
It’s the smart move. Litters arrive and go home daily, and a given puppy lives at one location, not both. A quick call to (972) 674-1963 — or a note through our contact page — lets us confirm what’s available and at which location, so the drive is worth your while.
How long is the drive from Mesquite?
Most of Mesquite is a comfortable half-hour or so from the North Dallas location via I-635, depending on traffic and where in town you start. The Mansfield location is a longer trip to the west, so check which location has your puppy first.
What does “happy from the start” actually mean here?
Each puppy gets a wellness exam from a licensed Texas veterinarian before meeting families, comes from a trusted network of carefully selected, licensed breeders, and — per Texas law — is at least eight weeks old before going home. You can add an optional 15-Year Limited Health Warranty in-person if you want longer-term coverage behind the years ahead.
Can I see everything before I commit?
That’s the whole point of coming in. Meet as many puppies as you like, ask every question, and let a puppy show you who it is. When you’re ready, browse the current litters from both DFW locations and pick a day to come say hello.
